Department of Labor Clarifies Start Date for Families First Coronavirus Response Act

The United States Department of Labor has newly issued guidance for the Families First Coronavirus Response Act created last week. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act provides for both emergency paid sick leave and emergency family leave under expanded FMLA provisions. One of the significant clarifications made by this newly issued DOL guidance was to clarify that the start date for the paid leave provisions was April 1, 2020 and not April 2, 2020, as had been previously reported. The Act will apply to leave taken between April 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.
