Property Fraud Alert Service

In December of 2022, we wrote about a free alert system available to help address the growing problems caused by property fraud and mortgage fraud.

While that post is over a year old now, the topic remains timely. Just recently, Indiana Assessors met in Warrick County for a press conference to discuss and publicize the rising threat caused by mortgage and property fraud. The Assessors are also encouraging real property owners to sign up for the alerts we posted about at www.propertyfraudalert.com

Signing up is easy—users simply need to head to the site, select the appropriate state and county, and enter some basic information. Once in the system, users will receive a notification when a document is recorded that matches the name in the system. While this notification does not prevent fraud, the alert can help quickly detect fraudulent property records, such as someone else claiming ownership to property. This allows the victim to take prompt action to resolve the matter, including reporting to law enforcement authorities before the passage of time that often makes resolution more difficult and costly.
