Share the Love

This Valentine’s Day, we wanted to share the love and spread the word about some of the great charitable organizations we support as a firm and as individuals.

Terry Farmer is a board member and chairman of the Finance Committee of International Ministries. International Ministries supports approximately 100 missionaries around the globe. To learn more about their global mission visit their website.

Evansville Civic Theatre is one of the local charities supported by Laura Scott. Laura has served on their board for many years. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the theatre has been closed for almost a year and the board has found creative new ways to provide performing arts to the local community. The board is currently engaged in a community-wide campaign to keep Evansville Civic Theatre going until the theatre building can reopen again -- #savecivictheatre. Visit here to learn how you can help Evansville Civic Theatre continue to enhance and enrich our community.

FSO attorneys Andy Ozete and Lindsay Schmitt are both volunteers for United Caring Services. United Caring Services is an organization dedicated to providing values-based, low barrier, sustainable, and high-quality homeless shelters, services and solutions. Among their services is a day shelter that provides food, laundry and shower facilities and the use of the shelter address for people who need to use it for job applications, social security disability benefits and so that their family can keep in contact with them. It also has shelters for men and women experiencing homelessness and a Homeless Medical Respite Program. Lindsay offers pro-bono legal services in furtherance of UCS’s mission. Andy, through his church, volunteers to cook meals at the day shelter and provides monetary and in-kind support to the mission. A list of urgent needs can be found by visiting here.

Dan Robinson serves as President of the Evansville Bar Foundation. The Evansville Bar Foundation was formed around 20 years go by a generous donation by Evelyn Sanders, the widow of John L. Sanders, a wellrespected Evansville attorney. The Foundation's Statement of Purpose is "Promoting Justice and Improving Lives Through the Law." To that end, the Foundation has four fields of primary interest:

  • Encouraging and supporting programs designed to promote a public understanding and awareness of the law

  • Supporting an improved delivery of legal services to the community as a whole, as well as the indigent and our most vulnerable citizens

  • Promoting activities to enhance the performance of the practicing lawyers' professional qualifications and ethical responsibilities

  • Advancing and promoting the administration of justice

The Wesselman Nature Society (WNS) is a not-for-profit, environmental organization responsible for the management and daily operations of Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve and Howell Wetlands. Working in partnership with the City of Evansville, Wesselman Nature Society provides environmental education and outdoor recreation experiences designed to enrich the lives of area residents and visitors. The Society is governed by a member volunteer Board of Directors charged with ensuring the sustainability of the properties and the continued success of programming for the community. FSO attorney Jamie Dameron serves as a member of the volunteer Board of Directors.

Thank you to these organizations and the many other local and global organizations that do good work every day. Our lives are made better by your endeavors.

Love is not patronizing and charity isn’t about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same—with charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead.
